Innovative Survey Seeks Input from Power System Designers on PMBus™ Standard

Summary The PMBus™ Interface Forum (PMBus-IF) launches a web-based survey at http://pmbus.org/survey to get input from the power design industry on the PMBus standard. By completing the survey, a responder can enter a drawing for an iPod Touch®.

February 19, 2010, Dallas, Texas The PMBus™ Interface Forum (PMBus-IF) today announced it is seeking input on the PMBus open standard with a unique online survey, aimed at power systems designers and users. By completing the survey, a responder can enter a drawing for an iPod Touch®. The survey can be reached from http://pmbus.org/survey

The short survey, which takes less than 10 minutes to complete, asks power system designers and others to provide their opinions and insights on the Power Management Bus (PMBus), an open standard power-management protocol. The answers to this survey will help guide the development of the PMBus standard.

The survey will close at midnight Eastern Time on March 21. [This was the new deadline; the original release said March 8.] The identity of responders to the survey will be kept strictly confidential.

“This survey is an innovative way for the PMBus Implementers Forum to gather invaluable data from OEMs, ODMs, power supply manufacturers, semiconductor manufacturers, software manufacturers, design consultants, and industry influencers,” say sPMBus-IF administrator Clyde Adams III. “This survey demonstrates that the PMBus-IF is committed to listen and respond to the needs of the power design community.”

About PMBus

PMBus is an open standard and specification, consisting of a protocol and command language for communication between power converters and other devices. The protocol is implemented over the industry-standard SMBus serial interface, and enables configuration, control, and real-time monitoring of compliant power-conversion products.

Flexible and versatile, PMBus enables communication between devices based on both analog and digital technologies, and provides true interoperability, reducing design complexity and shortening time to market for power system designers. Pioneered by leading power supply and semiconductor companies, PMBus is maintained and promoted by the PMBus-IF. See the PMBus web site at http://pmbus.org/

About the PMBus-IF

The PMBus Implementers Forum (PMBus-IF) has maintained and promoted the PMBus standard since 2005. It currently comprises more than 30 adopter companies, including Dell, Emerson Network Power, Ericsson, Intel, Intersil, Linear Technology, National Semiconductor, and Texas Instruments. The PMBus-IF is part of the System Management Implementers Forum (SMIF), Inc., a nonprofit industry standards group incorporated in Texas.
